RIFLE SHOOTING

KARORI CLUB ; t The Karori Club fired a championship match and commenced its fifth fortnightly competition on Saturday, at ranges of 800 and 900 yards. The welcome change in the weather on that day induced a fair number of members to attend, but a variable and very “patchy" southerly breeze affected the scores somewhat. Some riflemen were more fortunate than others, in the conditions at the time of their shooting. Among the scratch men, Messrs. Boon and Swanson were in good form, and of the handicap men, C. E. It Is anticipated that the club will be represented at both the Wanganui (North Island championship) rifle meeting and the Wellington Association meeting. OLD NAVALS CLUB The Old Navals Defence 11136 Club fired their third match for the second series, and sixth for the club’s championship and short-range aggregate at 'l'rentham on Saturday. The weather conditions were fairly good, except for a very dull light at the longer range, which somewhat affected the scores at that range. Rifleman Goldfinch again headed the list with a total of 92 (48 at s(loyds., and 44 at 600yds.). Rifleman L. Hare was second with 46 and 43. The above two members and Riflemen R. Bishop and D. It is hoped that a good number of the club’s members wil compete at the Wellington Rifle Association meeting, at Trantham on January 1 and 2. SUBURBS CLUB The Suburbs Defence Rifle Club opened its third series with a shoot over the 500 and 600 yards ranges. The conditions were not favourable to good shooting, there being a choppy wind, and at times a misty rain. Rflmn. Astons 48 at. 500yds. was a very, fine effort, he just failing to achieve the possible ou the last ehot. Rflmn. T. Goodall put up the best total off the rifle (90), closely followed by Rflmn. Aston (89)' and DepPres. Hunt (88). The challenge badges, which are now awarded to the three highest gun scores in A class, and tile two I'est scores in B class, were won by, in A class T. Goodall 90, E. Aston 89, TT. Hunt 88; in B class by R. Mottram 86, and F. W. Thompson 83. Rflmn. Mottram headed the list for the day with 99 to his credit. Details are as follow:— 500 600 a yds. yds.
