CRISIS IN ITALY
MUSSOLINI THE IDOL OF THE . MASSES BUT PRESS DEMANDS HIS RESIGNATION Br Telegraph-—Press Association. Copyright. London, December 18. The Rome correspondent of the “Daily Express” says that Italy is confronted by a grave crisis. Signor Mussolini is still the idol of the masses, as the saviour of Italy from Bolshevism; but apparently he lacks the faculty of choosing subordinates. For weeks Parliament nas been without an Opposition. The Democrat, Catholic Party, and Socialist deputies, numbering 150, fill the lobbies, but have declined to enter the Chamber, since Signor. Matteotti was murdered. The Government accordingly readily passed the Press Bill; but the proposed legislation was too much for the Senators, who for the first time voted heavily against Mussolini. The Government has. therefore, decided to withhold the Press legislation. The newspapers, however, continue to demand that the King shall call for the Government’s resignation, even if Mussolini has to be asked to form a new administration.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
