LAWN TENNIS
OPENING OF PETONE CLUB. Although the weather on Saturday was such as to make tennis absolutely impossible, arrangements for tho Petone Club were got so well in hand that it was deemed inadvisable to postpone the opening. The club was tnereloro officially opened by Mr. J. AV. McEwan, Mayor of Petone, who congratulator the committee and members on the satisfactory condition resulting from lust season, and hoped the future would prove an even greater success. Afternoon tea was served to those present. Other clubs, which had r rranged to open last Saturday, decided upon ar postponement until next week, whilst Newtown, Salamanca, and Victoria College will bo further delayed through the fact that those courts are at present undergoing a process of top-dressing.
