FAMOUS CRIMINAL

ARRESTED IN FRANCE. (Rec. October 6. 5.5 p.m.) London, October 5. The “Daily Chronicle’s” Paris correspondent states that the arrest of the bandit Gabriel Mourey, after a fierce struggle, which resulted in the serious wounding of Mourey, brings to light a famous criminal character. Mourey was arrested on a charge of stealing jewellery valued at £25,000 from a millionaire of New York. For murder Mourey was transported to the famous Devil’s Island but made a remarkable escape. He then settled in Venezuela. He there committed many thefts. Then he proceeded to Mexico. In the Uniter States his career has been a series of wonderful episodes, but he always evaded arrest by fine disguises.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
