BASEBALL
Baseball gaires were resumed on Saturday, after an internal of three weeks, owing to bad weather. There was a very satisfactory attendance of players and spectators at Miramar Park, when the redoubtablj A team defeated B team by I<> to 8. The winners were captained ty McGirr, and although this is baseball s first season, they already have a iuniarkable record. The team to a man are very evenly balanced, and play together with a thorough understanding. Balkin’s pitching was a treat to watch, and difficult to play. He also batted well. McGirr, as usual, wielded the bat to some purpose. Solomons, the latest addition to the team, scored no fewer than 4 runs. J. Alexander performed well in the mask, whilst Hawkins and Bade also contr.buted to the victorv. B team, captained by F. Alexput up a far better game than the scores would indicate, and with reasonable luck should have scored 3 more runs at least. However, as isual, catching was their weakness, and until this defect is remed ed they have no hope of defeating their redoubtable opponents. Individually the team possesses some excellent players, but the need for better team work is apparent. F Alexander as captain handled the team, and played Ids usual heady game, although caught napping ■■nee or twice. Catchpole p.tched and fielded well, as also did Wakelyn, each scoring two runs of the total. Cohen was lucky to get his two runs. Kay showed marked improvement, as also did Powrie. Scores —A team, 3. 3,2. 4,1, 2 —15; B team, 2,2, 0,1, 2, I—B.
