HOCKEY
NEW ZEALAND TEAM BEATS NEW SOUTH WALES SUPERIOR IN ALL DEPARTMENTS (Rec. August 21, 8.35 p.m.) Sydney, August 21. The New Zealand hockey team defeated New South Wales by 3 goals to 2, in an extra match arranged for the visitors when en route from Brisbane to Melbourne. The New Zealanders arrived in Sydney at noon to-day, after twenty-seven hours’ travelling on the Brisbane express, leaving again this evening for Melbourne. The visiters led by 2 goals to nil at the interval, demonstrating their superiority in all departments. The local team attacked hotly in the second half, Kendall securing and goaling and Milner subsequently equalising the scores. From a scramble in front of the net Alexander scored the winning goal for the New Zealanders. Boyd and Philpotts registered the visitors’ goals in the first spell.—Press Assn.
