In reply to a letter forwarded by the Chamber of Commerce to the New Zealand Overseas Shipowners’ Committee. the chairman (Mr. J- H. C. Bond) wrote to tho effect that at present liners engaged in the trade prov’ded accommodation for from £37 upwards, which was less than £1 a day. “So far,” he added, “there is no indication that the existing liners will be able to accommodate all the passengers who may wish to proceed, so there is no call to consider a oneclass vessel, which, unless it was suitable for carriage of Refrigerated cargo would be an expensive proposition.” It was announced that a committee was already inquiring into matters connected with the British Empire Exhibition
