FORCING DOWN COAL PRICES
OWNERS CLOSING THEIR PITS
(Rec. January 11, 1-15 a.m.) Sydney, January 10. With a view to reducing freights and fates, the Railway Commissioners arc seeking to force down prices in now coal contracts. A number of coalowners, declining .to supply at the ,reduced prices, are closing their pits. It is stated that a thousand miners will thus be rendered idle. —Press Assn.
