GROUP MIGRATION
NEW SCHEME FOR EMPIRE SETTLEMENT TO RELIEVE BRITISH UNEMPLOYMENT AND POPULATE UNDEVELOPED AREAS BT TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION. —COPYRIGHT. London, January 7. A scheme for Empire settlement to relieve unemployment, formulated by influential bodies in the West of England for submiss'on to th© Government, provides for tho formation of county resettlement committees, each co-operating in a selected colony for the development of specific areas. The funds will be subscribed by private investors, who will receive a guarantee rate of interest over a given number of years, guaranteed both by the British and Australian Governments. 'When an investigation of the undeveloped area has shown the numbers employable the resettlement committees will embark a chosen body ot migrants for that destination. The Dominions should be asked to submit a number of practical schemes, each employing, say, three thousand every two years, and allot tho schemes for the consideration of the counties. The advantages pointed out of group migration are the creation of business concerns, attractive to investors, ana giving the workers incentive to improve their prospects. All classes are to be encouraged, *~and not only the farm labourers and domestics now m request.—“ The Times.”
