ESTABLISHMENT OF STATIONS URGED
TO ENSURE IMPROVED COMMUNICATIONS BY TELEGBAPH —PBBSS ASSOCIATION. —COPYRIGHT. London, January 8. Lord Burnham introduced a deputation of the Empire Press Union to the Postmaster-General (Mr. Neville Chamberlain). Speakers from all the Dominions urged the . supremo necessity for something to be done in the matter of the establishment of wireless stations, ensuring quicker and cheaper communications, and placing Britain on an equality with other nations in the matter. Mr. Chamberlain, in replying, said that the question was not one for the Post Office alone, but for the whole Cabinet. He did not think it necessary for stations at this end to be operated by tho same authority or organisation as in the Dominions. It was necessary to take into consideration the question of cost, whether any useful purpose would be served by increasing. the capacity of stations in order to secure tne luxury of a somewhat bettor service, which, however, would be disproportionate to the extra cost involved. The Post Office was considering the policy of the late Government in the light of recent developments in the Dominions, but had not yet coir.e to any conclusion. Therefore, it was impossible for him to give a definite reply. He hoped there would bo no long delay. He thought the decision of tho policy would be satisfactory to all concerned. The great question was money. Tho Government had not yet decided what should be the size of the stations. That was solely a technical question, but he desired to re-emphasise that the question of money had to be taken into consideration. He thought ho could assure the deputation that when the scheme was announced it would be found in every way suitable and a complement to what had been done and proposed by the various Dominions. —Aus.-N.Z.
