NATIONALISTS’ CONFIDENCE IN MR. HUGHES.
Sydney, January 9. A special meetins; of tho Council of tho National Association of New. South Wales reaffirmed its confidence in and loyalty to Mr. W. M. Hughes. The latter, in a speech, expressed himself as confident regarding the future course of events both as to his own position and that of the party as a whole.—Press Assn.
MR. PIDDINGTON CLAIMS A MURAL VICTORY. (Rec. January 10, 0.5 a.m.) Sydney, January 9. After tho declaration of tho North Sydney poll Mr. Hughes was expected to declare his political intentions. He disappointed expectations in a colourless speech. Mr. Piddington, following, claimed that the shaking he gave Mr. Hughes was a moral victory for the new Glad-, stonian Liberalism, which the electorate and the existing conditions demanded.—Press Assn.

LABOUR WINS SOUTH AUSTRALIAN SENATE SEATS. (Rec. January 10, 1.5 a.m.) Adelaide, January 9. Mr. McHugh O’Lochlin. a Labour candidate, has been elected to the Senate, giving all three State seats to Labour. —Press Assn.
