THE MAGISTRACY
COLONEL R. W. TATE APPOINTED
A vacancy existingjn the Magistracy has been filled by the selection of Colonel R. W. Tate, and a recommendation for his appointment was transmitted to His Excellency the GovernorGeneral yesterday by the Minister of Justice, the Hon. E. P. Lee. Colonel Tate has been for the last four years Administrator of Samoa, which position he is vacating during the next few weeks. For many years he practised as a solicitor in tho Wairarapa district. He was admitted to the Bar in 1886. A deep interest in military matters has always been taken by Colonel Tate, and he has held several important positions under tho Now Zealand Defence svstem. In 1914 he relinquished his law practice, and was appointed to the command of the Wellington military district, holding that appointment until 1916, when lie accepted the office of Adjutant-Gen-eral to tho Now Zealand Forces. This position he filled until his appointment in 1919 as Administrator of. Samoa. It has not yet been decided whore Colonel Tate will bo stationed when ho assumes his new duties.
