TEAM WORK IN FREEZING INDUSTRY

APPLICATION FOR AWARD BY TBLEIBAFH.—P'IESS ASSOCIATION / Christchurch, September 29. _ A sitting of the Conciliation Council was held to-day to consider the application by the New Zealand Refrigerating Company for an award to deal with the “team” system of slaughtering. The respondents named were the Canterbury Freezing Works and Related Trades Employees’ Union, and the New Zealand Frjiezing Works and Related Trades Employees’ Association. The workers were not represented. The Commissioner said that when the application was received he had some doubt whether tho council had jurisdiction to deal with it. He had applied to the Arbitration Court for directions, and the Registrar had replied that the system was entirely a new one for New Zealand, and the proceedings should be for a supplementary award. The dispute should be treated as in any ordinary case. Tho Conimissjioner added that the respondents not having filed counterproposals or nominated assessors, the application for a supplementary award would be forwarded to the Arbitration Court without any recommendation.
