ATLANTIC SALMON
ACCLIMATISED IN THE
SOUTH
The Chief Inspector of Fisheries has reported to the Minister of Marine (Mr. Anderson) that an Atlantic salmon weighing 6Jlb., caught in the Waiau River, Southland, has been identified definitely. Some years ago the Marine Department imported several shipments of Atlantic salmon ova, and the fry were liberated in the Waiau River. The success of the experiment remained in doubt for a long time, but there is no doubt non; that the Atlantic salmon has been 'acclimatised. The fishery experts anticipate that before long there will be large numbers of the fish running in the Waiau.
