MOUNT EVEREST
EXPEDITIONARY PARTY AT DARJEELING SUCCESS DEPENDENT ON TRANSPORT bt Tmegbaph—press Association. —COPYRIGHT. London, March 28. General Bruce, leader of the Mount Everest expedition, telegraphing from Darjeeling on March 22, states:—“The entire party, numbering twelve, is ex-, pected to leave for Tibet on March 26. The expedition is thus considerably stronger than in 1921. The additions to the party consist purely of Britisn ■mountaineers who have not before taken part in the expedition. Success will depend on the transport. The hillmen have responded splendidly to the call for porters. They underwent severe hardships in 1921, yet they are keenly competing for inclusion. Owing to the size of the .party, and the proved magnitude of the undertaking, the outfit is far heavier than in 1921. It is hoped that the whole expedition will assemble at Pharidzong on April 6, ready to enter Tibet, though on the Western Himalayas there is probably now ten feet of snow, which will practically. prevent tra.n sport before the beginning of May. The road to 'Tibet in this part of the Western Himalayas and across Jelapla lies open to Animal transport during the whole of the winter, and many mules bring wool from Tibet to Bengal early in the spring, and return practically without loads. Thus the expedition is. enabled to engage mules.”—“The Times.” '
