JN consequence of tho outbreak of Plague in Australia, the Public Health Department considers it advisable that Local Bodies should take every precaution against the possibility of the infection obtaining a foothold in New Zealand. His Worship the Mayor, therefore, requests that all Citizens will have all rubbish, old and waste material now upon their premises removed at once, and prevent any accumulation for tho future, as these accumulations ara undoubtedly an encouragement to rats. That they will also take every means to destroy rats, as these animals are now known to be tho great carriers of the plague germ. The Corporation Inspectors have been instructed to take vigorous steps to see that all Citv nremises are kept in a cleanly condition. House-to-house visitations will be made by the Inspectors. The Mayor hopes fflut Citizens will cordially co-operate and assist the Council in carrying out these reauirements. Legal action will be promptly taken in all cases where there is any neglect. Citizens requiring the removal of refuse by the Corporation- will be good enough to make apnlication to the Chief Sanitary Inspector's Office, giving complete address. A small charge of 2s. will be made for the removal of quantities not exebediner three (3) cubic feet. Payment must be made at the time of the removal of the refuse, for which an official receipt will bo given by the party removing the same. Please see that you obtain your receipt. JNO. R. PALMER.
