RESULT OF SOCIALISM

Sir, —I have no patience with these men i who never went to the war, and who have had ample opportunities during the lust six years of laying by a little nest egg, but are, instead, now seeking for Government aid. When the war broke out, I was in the first lot to volunteer,! but being "turned down" I immediately married. As I had saved .£220, wo purchased a house, with a small shed at the back, paying' -£75 down. Since 191-1 I have averaged closei on to .£5 per week, besides what I made "overtime" in my shed. Strikes never troubled me, and now my house is free, and I have a little sum to my credit in the I , ost Office Savings Bank. Lots of other mon, I am sure, would have done the tame as 1 have done if it were not for the union Socialistic leader’s, who are always, preaching against the “absurdity of sav- ; ing," and that those who desired to own ’ their own houses were playing into the! hands of the Capitalists. There are many;! easily led young fellows, who are not too 1 kee l on work, who prefer pleasures, picture shows, beer, billiards, etc. (which! soon run away with 50s. orGOs. per week), I who implicitly believe all these fluent-1 speaking leaders tell them, and instead’ of thinking of their work are living oil! day dreams, whirling round the country j in their own motor-cars, etc., etc., and they cannot but believe that they, are; now passing through gome horrible night- j mare, out of which they are certain to' awake finding that the spendthrift and; improvident portion of the community are the rulers of New Zealand, while I those who have made New Zealand are I their menials. Do away with these ex- I ponents of Socinll’dic views, and those , young fellows (now drunken on day- I drcams) will realise what fools they have been made of; that they can soon placo . themselves above having to apply for Government aid if they will only work and save.—l am, etc., NEW ZEALANDER.
