IMPORTATION OF SUGAR. By Telegraph—Press Association. Dunedin, July 8. The Otago Labour Council passed a resolution protesting against the Government’s inaction in not preventing the monopoly exercised by the ' Colo “ a '_ Sugar Company. The resolution adds: “In suite of official disclaimer, the effect of the Government negotiations is that the Dominion distributors, it they imported the Java product, incidentally reducing the sugar price £l2 per ton, would be boycotted, which is tantamount to a prohibition to import .Java sugar by recognised distributor. A later message states: There is strong feeling here regarding the Board of Trade’s announcement that arrangemen s have been made by the Government to continue the control of sugar tor a furfber period. A meeting of sugar distributors passed an emphatic resolution of protest, as also did .the Otago-Labour Council.
