Acceptances for the first day's handicaps at the Wellington Racing Lluo« winter meeting and also for the Wellington Steeplechase, together with entries for the Trial Plate, close to-night at 9 o'clock. The steeplechasers Oakleigh, Northland, and Ooroglen, arrived at Trentha-m last night. After racing here they are to go oil the Iliccarton meeting. The rising two-year-old sister to Mermin will race under the name of Zareba. The filly Is being trained by P. Hazelman at Tauherenikau. B. Decley. who has been farming during the last few months, is again riding work at Ellerslie, and his friends hope to see him in the saddle early in the new season. While in Auckland this week. Mr. W. G. Stead stated that Mermin would be one of his team for the Avondale Jockey dub’s spring meeting, and his special mission would be the Guineas. He also stated that Sasanof was doing well, and he had every* hope of him winning more races next season. Waimai has been entered for the Grand National Steeplechase, and if he goes to the post for next month’s race, he will have the record of having contested the big Iliccarton cross-country event live times. Last week the Hawke’s Bay District Committee granted Mr. R. Patterson, owner of Steepholm, a permit to train his own horses. Prodigal developed a cold at the Baa l * nevirke meeting, and the Danube gelding had to be withdrawn from his Rangitikei Hunt Club engagement. Rational is wintering well at Hawera, and gives promise of being a commanding three-year-old next season. W. Stone has put Lovematch into work at Hastings, and presumably she will be seen out in pursuit of staken money early in the spring. Coalition, gave a very pleasing display over nine of the steeplechase fences at Hastings the other morning. He will be a starter at Wellington, and will be rdiden by H. M'Sweeney. The Wanganui horseman. E. Copestake, has recovered sufficiently from his fall on Khartoum to leave the hospital at Hastings. W .J. Donovan has another addition to his string at Hastings in a two-yearcld gelding by Hymettus—Snooze, therefore a half-brother to the defunct Napper. The youngster will carry the same colours as Hyginas. At Hastings this week Tigritiya and Potentiality gave an indifferent display over hurdles. The former, being too careful, requires the company ot a seasoned hurdler. "Sentinel,” in the "Otago Witness,” says: "What may be a cause celebre, a storm in a teacup, or a cyclone in a capsul, may bo unearthed in some of the correspondence which will, it understood, come before the Racing Conference. It is understood that an owner supported by documentary evidence has laid a charge against a prominent racing official of endeavouring to use his influence with another official in the latter’s treatment of the aforesaid owner’s horses. And there are other statements said to be contained in the documentary evidence.’’ Mr. R. Acton Adams's horses, Lochella, Miss Muriel, and. General advance, left Dunedin yesterday for Wellington. Lochella will start in the Wellington Steeplechase only.
