BISHOP DWYER GIVES EVIDENCE. (Rec. July 8, 1.15 a.m.) Sydney, July 7. _ At to-day’s hearing of Miss Partridge’s claim against Bishop Dwyer, the case for the defence was opened. Counsel for the defence submitted a telegram from the Inspector-General o Police to the inspector in charge of the Wagga district asking it Sister Ligoun had been located, and whether arrangements could be made for -“k amining her with a view to ascertaining b Bishop Dwyer was called, and detailed the duties of a bishop regarding communities of sisters. He stated that pat of the duties was to see that an> nun wishing to leave a community was returned safely and in decent manner to her relatives or friends. He recapitulated the throe questions he put to o ster Ligouri during his episcopal vwi , when she stated that sho was perfectly satisfied. Ho added that sho gave no indication of dissatisfaction or u "^p^ness Witness also stated that, when inquiring as to Sister Ligmirrs whereabouts, he had been told that Dr. Tivey had offered to take her int °his establishment as a maid. He added that his idea in giving the information for her arrest was to ascertain her mental condition If she were declared sanq his duty ceased. If she were found to be insane he had to provide her treatment “ cured.
