WHERE THE TELEPHONE IS POPULAR
Th? latest available statistics show that of the principal countries of the world Great Britain ranks only fifth as a. user of the telephone. For every hundred of the population there were last year only two telephones, while Norway had twice as many, Sweden three times as many, and the United States over six times as many. In these countries (says ‘‘Everyday Science”) fho telephone is looked upon as n 'boon and blessing, and indispensable; in most of Britain the best compliment that can be paid it is that it is bettor than nothing. Because it is inefficient and costly it is unpopular, ,-ind largely because it is unpopular it is inefficient and costly.
