THE TROUBLE ON THE CALM
DISCUSSED AT "STOP-WORK" AIEIiTINOr. The incident concerning the steamer Calm, which caused a hold-up on the Wellington wharves, was again mentioned at yesterday's monthly stop-work meeting of the Seamen's Union, presided over by tho president (Mr. Adams). According to the official repo/t of the proceedings, the Minister of Labour in a letter replying to the representations already made, admittod that tho Wellington employers of waterfront labour had committed a technical breach of tho War Regulations. However, tho Regulations were meant to apply only k> tho war period, and in view of that no action would be takon against tho omployors. The meeting passed a motion embodying this reply, and requesting the Minister to stuff whether he would adopt tho same course in regard to any breach of the regnlations which might be committed by the workers in the future.
