He describes wintering at Chelyuskin, the.most northerly part of the Asiatic mainland, and piercing Nordenskjold Sea.. He was baffled by pack ice, voyaging in darkness until he reached Aion Island. Attempts to get into contact with Siberia wore baffled by the war conditions.
