The war budget to-day is full of interest. The great.' offensive, operations in tho West aie developing with brilliant results. The French" First and Tenth,' Armies have made conspiouous advanoes, penetrating to a • depth of five miles on a front of over 15 miles. Five British armies are maintaining-an increasing pressure on the Northern Franco-Belgian front. The enemy's position south of' Valenciennes has been turned. The new , Italian offensive is opening out very successfully, and important posi- J •tions have,been captured. In Palestine the Allies have captured Aleppo, and are threatening the Turks' most vital centre on the lines of communications with Mesopotamia, in, whioh region the British, are at present en- . gaged iri another successful drive. The enemy's internal situation grows.daily worse. The, Austro-Hungarian Empire is craoking everywhere like the ice in a spring thaw. Demobilisation is imminent, as public pressure has become too strong for the authorities to cope with it. In Germany the .public demand for'the Kaiser's abdication is growing more jnsietent. The German Government has replied to President Wilson's last Note, with v 8, new request for an armistice and stating that this.emanates from the "• German people. ' ' : ~
