MISCELLANEOUS BUDGET OF CASES. , , Mr. P. V. Frasii. S.M., presided over yesterday's sittißJ of the Magistrate's Court.
On. a charge of having been guilty of disorderly behaviour while drunk in Cuba Street on Saturday, Robert John ' Ashley was. remanded until October 20, ' bail being allowed in the sum of .250. Mr. P. W. Jackson appeared for accused. ( Acting-Sub-Inspector Emerson stated that, the remand was required owing to the j constable concerned being laid up as a'i result of having received a very severe kick. It was not known who inflicted the kick, and it wa6 desired 'to make some inquiries in the matter. The case of Gordon Barrett, who was charged with being a rogue and vagabond, having been found by night on premises in Fairlie Terrace, Kelburn, again camo boforo the Court for disposal. It will be remembered that the accused "haunted" a house because of a strango infatuation for a young lady who stayed there. When the matter was first before the Court the proceedings were adjourned in order that accused might undergo medical observation. Yesterday a relative attended the Court, and .informed Mr. Frnzer that she was prepared to take the accused with her to Christchurch and keep him under proper control. Mr. Frazer- accordingly bound Barrett over to keep the. peace for twelve months, the relative to enter.into a bond of ,£IOO that he would be of good behaviour. His Worship imposed a special condition that accused should not be oufc at night-time unless accompanied by some responsible adult, and made a further stipulation that- he should be under the general supervision of the probation officer at Clvristchurch.
' l''or insobriety, Jaines Healey was fined 10s., in default forty-eight hours' imprisonment.
Joseph Dosenback was fined £3 for being drunk and disordorly in Lambton Quay. Daniel Keane, with five previous convictions for drunkenness, admitted having been intoxicated on Saturday, and that he entered the New Zealander Hotel, whilst prohibited. It was 'stated that he had previously spent a term at the Ron Homo for Inebriates. His, Worship said he would give accused one final chance. On the charge of drunkenness Keane was sentenced to a month's imprisonment, and on the- other charge he was convicted and discharged. "Remember," said Mr. Frazer, "the next time it will be Roto Roa!"
Donald M'Donald was fined £1 for the breach of a prohibition order, and was convicted and discharged for drunkenness. As he was in a bad way from tho effects of-drink when arrested, and had had io receive medical treatment ho was ordered to pay .£1 Is. medical expenses. Default wns fixed at a month's imprisonment. ) ' For the disobedience of two maintenance orders, the arrears on which totalled £1\ 125., John Harper Paga'wns ordered to pay 10s. per week in all off the arrears,* in default one month's imprisonment in each case.
Henry Herbert Andrews was ordered to pay ss. arrears on a maintenance order within one week, in default fortyeight hours' imprisonment.
