WAR LOANS

The compulsory provisions of the ' Finance Act will be considered 'at the Conference of Chambers of Commerce. Auckland has forwarded 'the following remit:— ■ '

"That this conference, lecogmsing the risk attaching under the .compulsory provisions of an unnecessary depletion of working capital essential for the development of existing industries and tho" necessity for the raising of further loan moneys, and the improbability of being able to da so upon present terms, respectfully urges Parliament to consider whether in such case future terms cannot proide, (inter alia: (a) For such a rate_of interest as will constitute an inducement to the smallest investor; (b) for a minimum currency of five years, to enable merchants and others to invest business capital temporarily idle; (c) that future issues provide for partial conversion of previous issues as a measure of relief to those who loyally camo forward at tho outset and strained their resources in doing so." .
