TWO PRISONERS SENTENCED.
■' In the Supreme." Court yesterday morning His Honour the Chief Justice (Sir Robert Stout) had-before him two prisoners for sentence. . Ernest Henry Mackay, who pleaded ■guilty'in the Magistrate's Court, Wellington, to a charge of.bigamy, appeared iu' the dock for sentence. : Mlum asked if he had anything to say tho •.prisoner replied that he was in somewhat of a predicament, rs lie had engaged a solicitor to appear for him and the solicitor was out of town. had certain papers that he desired Ids Honour to peruse. In consequence of ■this His Honour deferred sentence until Tuesday-morning at! 10 o'clock. - . Edgar Arthur Ernest Rodgers, a boy 16i'years old, who was represented by Mr.-H. ! F.' von- Haast,. had pleaded o-uilty at Palmerston North to theft from postal ■packets'.--The lad was em-a-ed by Spence and Spence, Foilding, one of his duties was to clear the letter box. The lad was now being employed by Mr John Matbews, Feilding, who was willing to retain the lad in his senvco and ray him 15s.' a week and; his keep. lha report of the Probation. Officer was favourable. -■ His Honour imposed a sentence ot three years' probation, the lad not to leave the employ, of Mr. Mathews cept with the consent of the Probation Officer, and during the first six months of the probation he is not to visit any town, except with the consent of the Probation Officer.
