COAL MINERS' DISPUTE
CONFERENCE OPENS TO-DAY. The conference between the representatives of the Coal Mine Owners and the Coal Miners' Federation' to discuss the demand of the federation for an increase of 20 per cent._ in wages to miners is to be opened in Wellington to-day. A chairman of the conference has not vet been selected. Whatever the result of the conference the inquiry by the Board of Trade is to go on, and it will bo opened on Wednesday. For tlio present the omy outsider invited to assist the board with the inquiry is Dr. Hight, Professor of Economics at Canterbury Collega.
