EFFECT o>i THE INDUSTRY. The serious dion in the price of flax ivns discussed at a meeting of. the Northern Flaxmillers' Association this week. The advisability of the mills -lemnining closed for .a further poriod was also considered, and it was agreed that on the present basis the mills eoiild not work at, a' profit. It was decided to call a meeting of all millers of the province in August to fix on a date on which it may be considered that prices and conditions would permit them to operate. The secretary, Mr. ,T. A. Duncnn; stated that he had written to the Acting-Prime Jliiiistor drawing li:s attention 'to the congested state of the lln.v stores in the Auckland district, mid statin;,'' that iimless relief was afforded by the provision of shipping «pnoe, Hi« millers would bo imablo to storH in the spring as usual. This would involve the lying idle of .the large capital sunk m the industry, and, further, an opening for unskMled labour Tvould bo closed. Tho Acting-Primp Minister, in his reply, promised to communicate with Mr. Massey and to endeavour to obtain shipping space.
