AUCKLAND TRAMWAYS DISPUTE
MEN DECIDE NOT TO STRIKE. By Telegraph-Press Association. ' Auckland, Juno 12, A meeting of Iramwaymen, at which a report was made on the recent negotiations with tho Tramway Company, decided by a large majority not to strike, in view of the settlements agreed upon. No details are available. 1 he president of the Auckland Electric Tramways Employees' Union, Mr. Paul Ihchnrdson, stated on Monday night to a representative of the "Herald,"' that a number of differences between tho employees and the management regarding the" interpretation of the new agreement had been satisfactorily adjusted. Tho matters agreed upon included the changing of the hours of the night shift workers from 10 p.m. to 10.3G p.m., as their starting time, it being now agreed to start the men as formerly. This was a concession gained tor the night shift men, they being previously worked from 10 p.m. to G. 30 a.m. A point in connection with the depot workers was the hours of the cleaners, which had been satisfactorily adjusted. Some grievan-es in connection with the traffic department were brought under the notice of t.iie management, the principal of these being in the pay of the senior conductors who took up niotormen's duties. It was agreed that where - conductors gave up thoso duties to become motonnen there should be no alteration in their pay. Matters affecting the application of the increase in pa}' provided for ill Mr. I 1 owldss award to certain sections of workers also wero satisfactorily settled, it being agreed that the increases should date from May 18, when the agreement was signed.
