DR. BENSON'S IDEAL
AWAY WITH THE DENOMINATIONAL DIVISIONS. At the Bloomsbury Central Church recently tho Bishon of Hereford said that one reason why ho was present was that he desired to make it clear that as Bishop ho intended to pursue those objects which ho had pursued in less re'sponsible positions. "Was not a Bishop a Pontifes, a bridge-maker ? (Applause.) As Bishop I hopo to build bridges across chasms. I have some doubt as to whether [ reprcsenl. the clergy, but I am absolutely convinced that [ represent the liiity. Tho war has disclosed for us with the brilliant Hecis-ivenws of a lightning lla.-ih the insensate folly of denominational divisions. "Wo must not rest until wo havn got rid of them."
Preaching to a congregation of Nonconformists earlieiv in the day at Bloom?bury Chapel, the Bishop said that both the monk and the worldling were wrong. "Neither," ho said, "is the typo nf best citizen or makos the best use of his time on this side of tho grave. The greater achievements in human, history are the progeny of faith, not of ecepH'oism."
