LARGE/PARTIES STILL SEARCHING

The police organised a search of the Kakaiiui river-bed to-day for Onslow Mayhew, who is suspected as the perpetrator of the Gemmell's Crossing murder. Fairly large parties cf town and countrv residents assembled «t the river crossing at 10 o'clock this morning, and under the direotiou of police officers an extended search of the dense scrub and rorse. was made. The parlies, in extended order, searched down the river Almost to Maheno, and at, the time ot tcle°raphing large parties ere scofinng towards the upper reaches of the river, but no trace of' Mavhow has been, discovered. In some places it is practically'impossible to penetrate some of the thick undergrowth. The scrub and gorse extend for about four mi es east of the Gcene of the tragedy,,and about six miles westward of the river, and tho Kakanni takes its rise in very rough inhospitable country.
