A CALL TO NEW ZEALAND AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM BRITISH PRIME MINISTER "THE LAST MAN MAY COUNT" Tho I'rinio Minister has received through His Excellency the GovernorGeneral the Mowing message from the Right Hon. D. Lloyd George, Prime Minister of Great Britain, to the people of New Zealand, dated London, March 31:— Wo have been inspired during ' the past week with the constant news of tho dauntless courage with which tho Dominion troops have withstood tho desperate assaults of vastly more numerous German j forces. This battle shows that tho.Empire has reason to bo proud of its sons. Our armies cannot have too many of these splendid men. As already announced, we propose to ask Parliament to authorise immediate measures for tho raising of fresh forces. I would also urgo the Government of New Zealand to reinforce its heroic troops in the fullest possible manner, and with the smallest possible delay. _ The struggle is only in its opening stages, and it is our business to see that our armies get the maximum measure of support that we can give them. Let no one think that what even tho remotest of the Dominions can now do can be too late. Before the campaign is finished tho last man may count.—(Signed) D. LLOYD GEORGE. In connection with this message the Prime Minister (tho Right Hon. W. I l '. Massey) said:— The events of the last week, followed up by the foregoing message, must have brought home to each and every one of us the seriousness of the position. The message is not only to New Zealand, hut to every part of the Empire. New Zealanders have doue splendidly up to the present, but wo are capable of doing more; and I am confident that the Dominion will • respond satisfactorily to the call which has come from the Prime Minister of Britain. If as loyal citizens wo are to do justice to the occasion which has arisen, then wo must recognise that tho time has come to drop all sectional differences, to close up our ranks for a great effort, and let the enemy understand that our determination to win is just as strong as over, and that there will be no stopping short of complete victory. I had a conference to-day with the Commandant of the New Zealand Forces, and matters will be put in train, to be submitted to a meeting of Cabinet which will be held in a few days, and probably to Parliament when it meets nest week. SIMILAR MESSAGE SENT TO OTHER PREMIERS. (R«c. April 1, 9 p.m.) London, March 31. The Press Bureau states that Mr. Lloyd George's message to the Prime Minister of Now Zealand has also been sent to the Premiers' of Canada, Australia, South Africa, and Newfound-land.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assu.-Keuter.
