FORTNIGHTLY MEETING The Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke), Councillors L. M'Kenzie,- M. F. Luokie, W. Hildroth, J. 0. Shorland, J.' Godber, W. H. P. Barber, G. Frost, C. B. Norwood, W. J. Thompson, A. Veitch, W. H. Bennett, ! J. Castle, J. E. Fitzgerald, A. R. Atkinson, and K. A. Wright were present at the fortnightly meeting of the City Council held last evening. . Finance Committee. The following report of the Finance Committee was adopted:— ■ "That Messrs. Seaton, Sladden, andi Pavitt be informed that the council will be prepared to provide a supply of water for the new Fever Hospital from the Roseneath reservoir upon payment by the Hospital Board of the cost' of the work, estimated about £700, and ulso that the charge per thousand gal-. lons be fixed at. Is. "That authority be granted for the acquisition of the land necessary at Wilton Road to obtain access to a grillage erected at the entrance tb a storm-water culvert at such road.
"That permission be granted to the Wellington Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals to erect notices at certain water troughs about the city requesting drivers to do their duty to the animals under their charge, providing the wording of the notices he approved. "That the Wellington Harbour Board be informed in reply to their application for consent to subdivide a portion of their land at Cable Street Extension' as follows:—1. That the portion of Cable Street now constructed will be taken over as a public street, as tlio metalling, kerbing, and channelling have been completed to the City Engineer's satisfaction. 2..The hoard shall be required to agree to pay the cost of the flagging of the footways in Cabla Street Extension when and as required by the corporation. 3. The board shall be required to give a satisfactory undertaking to complete Cable Street Extension as previously arranged with the corporation. 4. The council mil construct a temporary water service for the present, to give water for the sections now being leased and the construction of the water main will be delayed until further supplies of piping are available. By-laws Business. The following report of the By-laws, ■Fire Brigade, and Street Lighting Committee was adopted:— "That the application of /Messrs. Hoggard, Prouse and Gummer for permission to construct a portion of the building being erected for Messrs. John Chambers and Sons, Ltd., at Cable Street and Jervois Quay, to ' project fourteen inches over the above streets for a distance of approximately three hundred and eight feet, be not agreed to. ' , . "That" the taxicab stand adjoining the Government Printing Office be cancelled as a ladies' stand, and authorised as an ordinary stand. "That an electric lamp bo erected on the pole above the Brandon Street taxicab stand telephone box. "That permission be granted to the Dominion Farmers' Institute to con struct a mansard roof in Teinforced concrete at new premises in Featherston Street, as recommended. "That the cancellation of a taxidriver's licence decided »on at the last meeting bo.confirmed."
