FLYING RECRUITS
THREE MORE PILOTS FROM SOCKBURN. Three more pupils of the Canterbury Plying School qualified for the Royal Aero Club's certificate on Saturday. They were: Ernest 11. J. Miller (Pnhiatua), H. D. Christie (Merivale), J. L. Davis (Christclmrch). The canditlates commenced their flying tests just after seven o'clock. It wjs a'"good air," but the morning was misty, with low-lying clouds, and a stoppage had to be made from tjme to time, owing to rain. Nevertheless, the men "ticketed" in the record time of twenty-six' minutes each. This was a remarkably good':performance, considering that eacli candidate had to mako three distinct flights, covering a number of aerial manoeuvres, and the examiner, Colonel Chaffey, was greatly pleased with the way in which the men went through their task. The school has now turned out 24 qualified pilots, in less than six months.
