WELLINGTON NORTH
Sir, —Without going into the question as to whether a contest should be encouraged for any Parliamentary vacancy which may arise during present war arrangements, it is unjust that anyone should be unfairly criticised for promising a backing to one candidate, as was done at the meeting at Kelburn when dealing with nominations lor Wellington North. It is open to anyone to make other nominations, but annoyance need not be expressed by thoso who wish to do so, because they cannot secure the endorsement of the Parliamentary Committee for their special selection. At this meeting and prior to it, it was known that it was to be fostered and strengthened by the legal profession for a specific purpose. It will come as a surprise if the electors of Wellington North allow themselves to bo cajoled into any arrangement which may have for its ultimate object the furthering of personal ambitions only, the first step of which is to securo a seat in V"]mmit.
