ORGAN RECITAL
. The city organist, Mr. Bernard F.Page, gave an, organ recital in the Town Hall on Saturday evening, and provided a very, pleasant selection of music, Ho opened with the "Sonata" (Salome), one of tbe most interesting of the many organ works written by the famous French composer. A graceful number, "Priere" (Cesar Franck), was followed by "Corelli's "Prelude from the 9th Sonata for the Violin." Corelli, who died over 200 years ago,.laid the ' foundation of modern violin technique, : and his prelude lends itself to attractive treatment by an organist. ' A Russian number was Raclimaninoff's '"Romance," written originally .for the piano, and reflecting the national characteristics of the Russian composer. The symphonic poem "Danse Macabre" (Saint-Saens) closed the first part of tho programme. The second part consisted of the third movement from : "Scheherazade," Op. 35 (RimskyEorsakoff), a symphonic suite based
upon the tales of the Arabian nights, and the' "Prelude and Fugue" in 0 Minor (Willan), a modern British composition. The programme was . a thoroughly enjoyable one, and the audience, though not large, was appreciative. It is announced ~that _ on and after December 4 organ recitals will be given on Tuesday evenings, commencing at 8.15 o'clock.
