HELP FOR BALLOTED MEN
EFFICIENCY BOARD OFFERS ASSISTANCE. The chairman of the National Efficiency Board (Mr. William Ferguson) has addressed a copy of tho following circular letter to each of the reservists drawn in the twelfth ballot in the Wellington district:— "The National Efficiency Board has •been constituted by the Government for the purpose of rendering assistance to those men who volunteer or are called up for military 'service, and noticing, your name in the recent ballot Gazette I venture to address you. A. General Committee is being formed in Wellington, comprising twenty-four voluntary workers, subdivided into three committees, one to deal with commercial and: professional matters, one to deal with retailing and distribution, arid the third to deal with manufacturing industries. Heretofore it has not been considered necessary to appoint these. committees in the Wellington metropolitan district, but now that the men of the Second Division are being called up for Bervice the personnel of the committees is being arranged and will be announced in a few days.
"If you desire it, the assistance of one of these committees" will be afforded you, in order to advise and assist you in arranging your affairs. Application forms for Government financial assistance will, on request, be supplied to soldiers or their dependants, and assistance rendered in their preparation. In general it is desired in every possible way to assist men who volunteer or who' may be called up to serve their country. You will understand that the above services are cheerfully given and no charge of any description is made.
"If necessary a board of trustees will be formed out of the Committee 'of Advice, or- otherwise, which board of trustees, having taken a power _ of attorney, is empowered by regulations to supervise the estate or business of any soldier during bis absence on active service, but it is hoped that the soldier will bo able to make arrangements for some intimate friend to carry on these duties. If such an arrangement cannot be made, then the board will endeavour to provide therefor. In any case,' soldiers who have property are strongly advised to leave a power of attorney for someone to act on their behalf during their absence from New Zealand.
