FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
HOW RESERVISTS SHOULD APPLY, Tho following statement has been isfiued for publication. from tlie oilico oil tho Financial Asaietance Board:— Thoro still seems to bo misapprehension as to the provisions of tho echeme of financial under tho regulations, January 16, 1917, and the procedure in obtaining ile benefits, numerous inquiries baring recently been made by inombers of tho Second Division. In addition to llio direct payments from the Defence Department comprisinir pay, separation, and children's allowances the Soldiers' Financial Assistance * Board may grant financial assistance in respect to such recurring obligations as: Bent, or board and lodgings. ' Inteedt on mortgages or loans. Instalments on furniture, sewing machines, etc. Kates and taxes. Insurance premiums (lifo and fire). Although tho provision of financial assistance is the eoldior's by right and is a straight-out gift, it should be dearly understood that each case will bo considered upon its merits, and that no diecrimination will be made between officers, non-commissioned officers, and men. Second Division reservists should particularly note that the board will not entertain an application until the reservist has been passed by the medical board as A, B, or CI. The Soldiers' Financial Assistance Board meets daily, and applications, if in order, aro dealt with within a few days. Any delay in submitting a case to tho board is directly attributable to neglect on the vart of the applicant in filling in the application form. The Soldiers' Financial Assistance .Board resets daily, and applications, if in order, are dealt with within a few dars. Anv delav in rabmittine a case to tho board is directlv attributable fo neelect on the wirt of the applicant in li' ,:> !" in, the annlication form. It is not necessary to appeal for exemption in order to iret financial assistance. An impression seems to have Rained ground that a reservist must appeal to a military service board for financial assistance, but an appeal is quite nn r necessary unless exemption from military service on other grounds than that of financial assistance is desired. Second Division reservists, in particular, should also note that the Soldiers' Financial Assistance Board's grants commence its from tbe date at which the recruit first becomes entitled to receive continuous pay as a member of the Expeditionary Force, and reservists, to whom financial assistance is granted, will therefore have to meet their obligations up to date of entering camp. Applications for forms and general in. quiries re financial assistance should bo addressed direct to. tho secretary. Soldiers' Financial Assistance Board. Sussex Chambers, Panama Street, Wellington.
