ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
CHILD. DROWNED. By Telecranli— Press Association. Masterton, November 9. A sad accident occurred at Mania, rear Masterton, yesterday afternoon, when the eighteen-months-old son of Mr. and Mrs. T. H. Rutherford was drowned in a ivator-race. It appears that Mrs. Rutherford, went out to feed the fowls, leaving the infant playing on the grass. She was absent only a short while, and on I returning to the house missed the child. On searching, the mother found the baby lying in about two feet .of-vater in a race that pHßses through the yai-d, and is netted off except at a spot leading across a plank to the fowj-ruj. Dr. Helen Cowrie was summoned", and in the meantime the parents tried every available means, to' restore animation, but. without success. ' ■ . -.' SUDDEN DEATH OF A FARM HAND. Masterton, , November 9. A man named Harry Howard, aged 64 years, and single, was found dead outside his wharo on Mr. James Shirkey's farm, Martinborough, on Wednesday. Deceased was engaged in drilling in tho morning, but owing to the rough weatlv er ho ceased work, and went to his whare, being then to all appearances in his normal state of health. Af about 6 o'clock Ifr, Shirkey went to call deceased for tea, but found the whare empty. On looking about outside ho found the deceased lying dead on the ground. He immediately communicated . with the police, who took charge of the body. FOUND DEAD. Auckland, November 9. George Ren wick, aged 51, marj-ied, astableman, was found dead, hanging from the crossbar in one'of the horse-boxes. Hβ had his head injured in an ac-cident some time ago, and complained of pains in'his head.
