RACING STABLE BURNED
4 COURAGEOUS LAD SAVES THE HORSES. By Telegraph-Press Association. Christchurch, November !). Last evening the racing 6tables of Mr. Ben Jarden, the well-known trainer of trotters, at Islington, were destroyed by fire. When Mr. Jarden reached Islington tho stables were well ablaze nnd beyond nil hopo of being saved. Valuable horses in tho building were saved, nnd apart from singeing and fright seem little tho worse for tho adventure. Mr. Jarden owed the recovery of his horses primarily to tho pluck and resource of one of tho stable-boys, Raymond Gibson, agod 16, who dashed into tho burning stables nnd had rescued three of the four horses—Author Dillon, President Wilson, Dillon Bell, ajid Matchlight—before he fell unconscious. Dillon Bell was difficult to remove, and tho boy had to use a fork i.o "prod" the horse to face the flames. Author Dillon's tail was badly singed, but otherwise ho sustained no injuries. Gibson was taken to tho Hospital, where ho is progressing very favourably.
