TIMBER WORKERS' CLAIMS

NEW AWARD APPLIED FOR. Tho Wellington Timber-yards and Sawmill Workers' Union is asking for a new award to supersede tho ono now running out. Tho union, in its claims, is asking for a working week of U hours, instead of 45 hours, and desires to obtain an increase of wages on the basis of about lid. an hour moro than is being paid at the present time, and asks that they be paid on a daily instead of an hourly basis. Should a man have a broken week in which his wages do not reach £3, the union asks that 10 per cent, be added to the amount that is earned. It also nsks that in the caso of a broken day the mail bo paid a full day's wages, except when it is the worker's default.

The case will bo heard by the Conciliation Commissioner (Mr. W. H. Bagger) shortly. «,
