SOLDIER INJURED
ACCIDENT TO TROOP TRAIN.
A collision occurred 1 at Featlierston station yesterday between spmo carriagca containing soldiers on leav'o and an engiiw and string of empty trucks, which resulted in slight injuries to. 6ever.il soldiers and Bomewhat serious injuries to Private O'Hara. Thirty-third Reinforcements, who hails from Dunedin. A troop train left Featherston Camp at 11 a.m. Tho majority of the soldiers on board were bound for Auckland. Three cars, however, were bound for Wellington. They were shunted at Featlierston to bo coupled to tho 11.20 mixed goods train for Wellington. Whilo waiting in tho station yard, whero shunting was being carried out, a string of wagons attached to an engine approached at a rapid pace. Beforo a warning could be given the wagons collided with the stationary carriages, with, considerable violence.
O'Hurd was standing on a, carriage platform, and was thrown backwards againht the rail, injuring his back. As 6oon as his injuries vers known tho stationinastor called up Dr. Palmer, of Feathorston, an<l a call was also 6ent to tho camp ambulance. O'Hara was taken to tho Camp Hospital. Later reports indicated that there was a good chance of his spino being uninjured. Of the other soldiers on tho train one received a cut on the face and others ■wore eoverejy shaken. The cause of the collision was not ascertainable.
