TIIE SEPTEMRER. QUARTER'S RETURNS.
The statement of receipts and expenditure of the Consolidated Fund for the September quarter, which appears in yesterday's Gazette, indicate? a falling off in revenue of a little under ,£200,000, while' the expenditure under permanent and annual appropriations has decreased by JC157.389. A special sum of .£128,362 for purchase of wheat, however, appears in the expenditure .for the 1917 quarter, and this, added to the total, leave 1 ) the total expenditure some »£GO t OOO below that of the corresponding quarter for 191 G. The total expenditure under permanent and annual appropriations was .£3,101,389, as against ,C 3 288,978 for the corresponding quarter of 191 G. Interest and Sinking fund shows an increase from .£4G3,40;i to .£008,4.>3, and war pensions an increase from ,£39.237 to .£105.383. The statement of receipts and expenditure under the War Expenses Account shows that some J10,449,000 of J™" tnonevs was -eceived during ihe quarter.
