ARBITRATION COURT

KESTAURANTS AND OYSTER SALOONS.

Tho private hotels and restaurant workers dispute was before the Arbitration Court yesterday. On the bench were Mr. Justice Stringer, Mr. W. Scott (employers' representative), and Mr. J. A. ll'Cullotigh (workers representative). This was an application on the part of the union for an increase of wages in respect of oyster saloons, restaurants tea and luncheon rooms, and refreshment rooms.

Mr. E. Kennedy appeared for. tho workers and Mr. W. A. Grenfell for the employers, • . ■

Ihe union, besides asking for a substantial increase in wages on tho old award, desired the following clauses added to tho award:—

All _ employees shall Lo allowed two ■weeks holiday on full pay each year after tho completion of twolvo months' service.

If any worker is omployod for znoro Mian, eix months and not exceeding twelve mouths with an employer, such worker shall lw entitled to a proportionate allowance- of holidays, except when discharged for misconduct. Whon an employer wishes to obtain (ho services of a worker he fhall in the first inelanco make an application to the secretary of tho union to supply him with the required worker, and if the

union is not in n. position to supply his requirements within a reasonable or prescribed (imo the employer may engage any person, whether a member of tho union or otherwise. Employers shall notify the union of the engagement of such worker within a reasonable time.

The local secretary or orga'iisuijj secretary eliall be permitted, lo interview nmployeea at their place of employment nn any one day in each week at a suitable lime lo be arranged betwecu employer and. the secretary of (ho union. The employers desired the terms of the old award to bo continued.

Numerous witnesses werecalled on bolh sides, and the hearing engaged tho attention of the Court tho whole day. Decision is to bo given later.
