MONEY MARKET. The Bank of Eneland discount rate was on January 2. 1914, reduced from 5 to 4i per cent., on January 22 it was reduced to per cent., and on January 28 3 per cent. On July 3u tne rate was raised to 4 per cent., and on July 31 it whb raised tc B per com., and on August 1 it was further advanced to 10 per cent. On AucuHf. b the rate was reduced to 6 per cent., on Ausust 7 it was further reduced to 5 nor cent., on July Is. 1916, it was raised to 0 per cent., on January 12, 1917, it was reduced to 51 per cent., and on April 5 it was further reduced to 5 per cent. OPEN MABKET RATES. The open' market discount rate for three months' bills is 4} per cent., as compared with 4} per cent, last week, ana 5 9-16 per cent, last year. Short loans are quoted at 4J per cent., as against 41 per cent, last week and 51 per cent, last year. COLONIAL AND OTHER PRODUCE. Butter.—The arrival of a New Zealand cargo has only slightly relieved tho mar* kct, which is practically bare, and likely to remain so for fully a month. Many retailers are without mpplios. At a meeting of the Produce Exchange- it was decided to ask the Food Controller to raise the maximum prico of colonial butter. It is anticipated that a favourable reply will be received. Wheat.—Quiet, prices unchanged. Flour.—Activo demand. Supplies aro very' short. Oats, Peas and Beans—firm, no Australian or New Zealand offering. Sugar.—Granulated, 465. 9d. THE HETAIi MARKETS. Tin.—Spot and forward delivery, £247 7s. 6d. per ton. Bar Silver.—4lsd. per oz. standard. Other metals unchanged.
