[ His Excellency the Governor-General and tho Countess of Liverpool will bo present at the-opening perlormance of "Tho Pink Lady" to-night. Mr. 0. Gore Adams, A.0.5..M., of Wellington, who was at one, timo director of tho Thames School of Mines, is a* present on a brief visit to this city. Mr. Adams was following his profession as mining engineer in Bolivia when the war broke out. Ho went to Australia in 1915, but failing in his efforts to enlist for active service, lie has recently been working in the Sydney Recruiting Camp as a field secretary of the Y.M.C.A. Mr. Adams will shortly be leaving for Egypt as field service secretary witli the New Zealand Y.M.C.A.
A private cablegram received last week states that Corporal L. W. Green, 3/675, Second Stationary Hospital, youngest eon of Mr. W. H. Green, of .Seatoun, was gassed on October 12, and was in hospital. He left with the Fifth Reinforcemont, and was stationed in Egypt for twelve months, and then removed to England, and afterwards was sent to Prance, where ho had been for some time in charge of a squad analysing the water.. Another brother, Trooper G. R. Green, enlisted with the Sixth, Wellington Mounted Rifles, and is in Egypt. The eldest brother, Bombardier O. 11. Green, enlisted with the Thirtieth Artillery, and is now at Featherstori.
In tho Roll of Honour appears the same of Alexander Fraser, youngest son of the late Mr. Donald Fraser, of Pukehou. The' Fraser- family springs from pioneer settlers in tho Rangitikoi district, and this Now Zealand branch of tho Clan Fraser has a proud record for service in this war. Mr. Alexander Fraser, who was 39 years of ogo, was educated at tho Wanganui Collegiate School. For several years ho Lad managed his father's lands, and ho was well known and highly esteemed in tho Eangitikoi by a wido circle of friends and acquaintances. Lieutenant R-. D. Boyle, who went away with the Eleventh Iteinfqrcemeuis,- ami was wounded in action, returned to Wellington yesterday. Liouteiiant Boyle was at timo of enlisting on tho commercial staff of The Dominion. Afr. J. H. Ryder, managor of tlio British General Electric Co.. Ltd., at ■Wellington, lias gono to Sydney on a business trip. Mr. Randolph Hedford, the well-known Australian journalist, has been appointed a member uf the Queensland Legislative Assembly.
Gunner .frank Poland, who wis killed in action in Flanders on October 4, was the second soil of Mr. Hugh Poland, M.P., and was 22 years of age. He was born at Pacroa, and educated there, and later at the Thames High School. He was on tile staff of the Bank of New Zealand, and enlisted from the Hamilton branch of tho bank with tho Twelfth Reinforcements. Ho had previously enlisted with tho Main Body, but was rejected as too young. His elder brother .Jim joined tho Seventh Reinforcements, was wounded at Armentiercs in August, 1016, and has since returned home and been discharged./ The third brother, Roy, is in camp.
Dr. Doris C. Gordon lias resigned her University appointment in the bacteriological arid pathological departments of the Medical School at Dunedin, and at the end of the year intends to commence practice in llio North Island.
