KOSAMOND FOE NEW PLYMOUTH. /I'he Union Company's Rosamond is to sail to-night from Groyraouth with coal for Wellington and New Plymouth. She will arrive on Sunday, and it is hoped that she will be ready to Hail on Monday night for the northern port. ■MESS-TABLE GOSSIP. Captain D. M'Douald has taken charge of a Union Company's steamer, relieving Captaiu Flyun, who is ashore oil holiday leave. Mr. 11. P. Tucker, who has just passed his examination as second engineer, has gone south to rejoin au oversea vessel as fourth engineer. . Mr. A. B. Douglas, who has passed his examination as chief engineer, hfts joined the Kaniona as third engineer. Mr. Richardson, third engineer of an oversea ship, has come ashore -on holiday leave. The junior engineers have been promoted a step. Mr. Barker, purser of the Te Anau, is ashore at Auckland, awaiting orders. Another purser will join the vessel on her arrival at Lytteltou. Mr. A. Rathhone, late second officer of a Union Company's steamer, has resigned from the company's service. Mr. W. T. Brand, who has been ashore for some time, has filled the vacancy. The Komata sailed at noon yesterday from Westport for Wellington. The Kamona is to sail at midnight ta-day for Wellington. Both steamers have coal for this port. ,

The Amokura nUI sail at daylight today for a cruise in Cook Strait. As the vessel bas not visited Nelson for some time, she will call in there on Saturday and remain the week-end to allow the boys to attend church parade and have Sunday on shore. Sho will return to Wellington on Tuesday night or Wednesday morning. The Huia is due on Sunday from New Plymouth, and is ilxed to sail on Tuesday for Wanganui and New Plymouth. Although no word has been received advising her departure, the Magic is due today from Blenheim. After discharging a cargo of chafi she will sail for Saptly Bay. The owners of fourteen of the coastal steamers arc calling for crows to sign on with one man on a watch. The Hokitika Shipping Company bas bought the steamer Paeroa, aud she is now at Aueklaud having her passenger accomniodatiou converted into a cargo hold.

This week's Gazette contains a .notice to'mariners in connection with tho forthcoming changes in the examinations of masters and mates. The. Board of Trade recommend the most suitable books for examiners to study in connection with the new subjects to be introduced.
