DUTCH UNDER DISCIPLINE
AT,'ARM AT COMMERCIAL ISOLATION. New York, October 12. The New York "Times" correspondent at The Hague 6tates that tho cutting off of all commercial cable communication has. caused considerable apprehension among the Dutch, who realise that the Allies aro sincere in their action.—Aus.N.Z. Cable Assn.
THE REASON WHY. (Rec. October 14, 5.5 p.m.) London, October 12. Lord Robert Cecil (Minister for Blockades), commenting on the British embargo on the transmission by the Butch of Gorman sand, gravel, and metal, de» clared that the question was a most serious one. He had just returned fiom tho Western front, and he did not doubt that the Gormans were using these materials for concreting trenches, "pillboxes," etc., in vast quantities. Replying to the Dutch contention that the Germans wore using these materials for road-making, Lord Robert Cecil said with emphasis that the probability was that tho Germans were satisfying their civil requirements with matorials obtained in Belgium itself, thus enabling the'~imported materials to _ U6ed for military purposes. This justified the stoppage of tho cable communication.-Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
