LAWN TENNIS
WELLINGTON CLTJB'S OPENING.
A large number of members and guests attended the opening of the Wellington Lawn Tennis Club's season on Saturday. In the absence of the president (Mr. E. K. Kirkcaldie), Mr. J. D. Harper petformed tho opening ceremony, and after a few suitable remarks he asked Mr. Hurley, one of the vice-presidents of Brougham Hill Club, to speak. Mr. Hurley spoke for a few minutes on tennis and tennis players generally, and on behalf of his club wished Wellington Club a successful season. Mr. Harper then declared the, courts open, and called upon Miss Travers, Mr. Hurley, Mr. and Mrs. F. Grady to play the official set. Owing to the sheltered position of the Wellington courts, the wind did' not interfere a great deal with play, and all present had a very enjoyable afternoon.
